LARA 💛 in the UK!

🇬🇧 Lara is currently in a foster home in East Sussex, UK!

She's 3 years old, approximately 25-26kg, spayed, and ready to find her forever humans.

Words from her foster mum:

"Lara is the a total sweetheart - she is the most cuddly dog I've ever met. She is so calm and is equally happy to snooze on her sofa, give you hugs, go for a long walk or play with her favourite teddies. If you're looking for an easy going dog who could slot right into your family, she's a dream.

In her time with us she has been a total angel - she's learnt sit, paw, lie down, eats all of her dinner, is totally house trained, and is perfect on the lead.

Her favourite things are:

  • Cuddles: Lara cuddles like a human. She loves nothing more than to rest her head on your shoulder or jump up and give you a hug!

  • Belly rubs: She'll flop on her back and happily let you stroke her tummy all day long

  • Food: Not a fussy gal, Lara will eat anything and everything she's offered. Her love of food also makes her very easily trainable - she learnt sit, lay down and paw super quickly.

  • Teddies: Lara carries her teddies around the house like her babies. She never shreds anything, is happy to play chase, but really just wants to take them all to bed to nap with her.

  • Going out for walkies: Lara LOVES to go out for walks, her tail never stops wagging whether that's on a busy road or out in the countryside. She's seen horses and doesn't bark, loves to roll in puddles, and can't wait to walk for miles or get the zoomies off the lead. Her recall has been great so far.

  • A comfy crate: Lara isn't very needy and just likes somewhere comfortable to go for a snooze. She happily takes herself off to her crate for a nap when she's tired.

  • The garden: She loves her sunny little spot on the patio to nap, and a garden to chase toys around in.

Things she's not sure of:

  • Sharing her house with other dogs: Whilst Lara seems to be a very submissive and timid girl, being around other dogs in her home makes her anxious. She's fine to go out and walk with other dogs and so far hasn't been reactive at all outside of the house. She is currently in foster with 3 other dogs and it has gotten better over time, so it's possible she could eventually live with another dog with some consistent training over time, but I think she would be much better as an only dog. She has shared her life with plenty of other dogs for a long time - she'd like to be the centre of your attention now!

She's also:

  • Totally toilet trained - zero accidents

  • Crate trained - she chooses to go in there a lot of her own accord

  • Good in the car (she jumps straight in on her own and often doesn't want to get out!)

  • Perfect walking on the lead

  • Lived very briefly with a cat without issues

  • Been 4D tested (for Heartworm, Lyme, Anaplasma and Ehrlichia) and is healthy

  • Been briefly introduced to a baby and wasn't bothered in the slightest (she just wanted to give her kisses). We think she could possibly live with older children who know how to behave well with dogs.

We'll be so sad to see her go but you would be lucky to have her as part of your family!"

Lara's story...

Lara arrived in the UK in July 2024 to be adopted. Unfortunately that didn't work out, the other dog in the home repeatedly attacked Lara and she became incredibly fearful refusing to leave her bed. Within a week Lara was handed over to her foster family, where she's been since.

Lara was already a sensitive girl, and we feel this experience has compacted her discomfort around other dogs.

Before arriving in the UK, Lara and her sister, Clara, started their lives as very young puppies dumped at the graveyard near our shelter, alongside with 2 tiny kittens. God knows how long they had been there through 40 degree heat and storms, until one person saw them and contacted us. You can read more about their original story here:

They have always, always been very affectionate and love people's company, they would choose to be around you 24/7, kiss you and be stroked all the time.

They lived among 40 dogs in an enclosure for the past 3 years. They've always been okay with the other dogs around them in that environment, but much prefer humans and having you to themselves.
