🇬🇧 Lara is currently in a foster home in East Sussex, UK!
She's 3 years old, approximately 25-26kg, spayed, and ready to find her forever humans.
She needs an understanding family who will be willing to continue her training, socialisation and slowly building her confidence - and she'll give you 100s of cuddles in return. She would prefer to be the only dog in the home.
Words from her foster mum:
Lara is such a sweet girl with so much love to give to her humans. She is understandably nervous after everything she has been through in her short life, but she is adjusting to life in a house like a pro. She can't wait to see you and give you her hugs in the morning, steal your shoes and show you her goofy run!
Her favourite things are:
Cuddles: Lara cuddles like a human. She loves nothing more than to rest her head on your shoulder or jump up and give you a hug!
Belly rubs: She'll flop on her back and happily let you stroke her tummy all day long
Food: Not a fussy gal, Lara will eat anything and everything she's offered. Her love of food also makes her very easily trainable - she has been working on sit since the day she arrived!
Going out for walkies: Lara is nervous of walking on the road (after all, she's never been near a road before arriving in the UK) - but if you get her out into the countryside her tail never stops wagging. She's seen horses, rolled in puddles, and can't wait to walk for miles.
A comfy crate: Lara isn't very needy and just likes somewhere comfortable to go for a snooze. She happily takes herself off to her crate for a nap when she's tired.
The garden: She loves her sunny little spot on the patio to nap, and a garden to chase toys around in.
Things she's not sure of:
Sharing her house/her humans with other dogs: Whilst Lara seems to be a very submissive and timid girl, being around other dogs in her home makes her uncomfortable and she bears her teeth if they catch her by surprise. She's fine to go out and walk with other dogs and so far hasn't been reactive at all outside of the house. We are working on this whilst she stays with us, and it might get better with some consistent training over time, but I think she would be much better as an only dog. She has shared her life with plenty of other dogs for a long time - she'd like to be the centre of your attention now!
She's also:
Totally toilet trained - zero accidents
Good in the car (she jumps straight in on her own and often doesn't want to get out!)
OK walking on the lead. This is all new for her so we take our time to put her lead or harness on, as it does worry her, but once she's in and has a belly full of treats as a reward she's just fine.
Lived very briefly with a cat without issues
Been 4D tested (for Heartworm, Lyme, Anaplasma and Ehrlichia) and is healthy
She has not been around children. With her being so new to the UK and already being quite nervous, we'd recommend she went to a peaceful home with the youngest age being teenagers.
Lara's story...
Lara arrived in the UK in July 2024 to be adopted. Unfortunately that didn't work out, the other dog in the home repeatedly attacked Lara and she became incredibly fearful refusing to leave her bed. Within a week Lara was handed over to her foster family, where she's been since.
Lara was already a sensitive girl, and we feel this experience has compacted her discomfort around other dogs.
Before arriving in the UK, Lara and her sister, Clara, started their lives as very young puppies dumped at the graveyard near our shelter, alongside with 2 tiny kittens. God knows how long they had been there through 40 degree heat and storms, until one person saw them and contacted us. You can read more about their original story here:
Both girls were tireless, quite active, brave, mischievous, like to test their boundaries. They have always, always been very affectionate and love people's company, they would choose to be around you 24/7, kiss you and be stroked all the time.
They lived in a foster home for a short while when they first arrived, and since then have lived among 40 dogs in an enclosure for the past 3 years. They've always been okay with the other dogs around them, but much prefer humans.
Lara at the shelter:
